Arrowsmith Program

Silkwood offers The Arrowsmith Program as an alternative to the Silkwood Learning Program for those students who have been identified as requiring this approach to their learning.

The Arrowsmith Program is an internationally recognised program that addresses the cognitive learning capacity of students who experience difficulties in learning. Rather than learning to compensate for learning disabilities, the program specialises in strengthening learning capacities.

The aim of the program is to help students become effective, confident and self-directed learners. This includes, enabling students to return to a full academic program after a three or four year program.

The program has been helping children with learning disabilities overcome their challenges and achieve academic success since 1978. Based on the application of sound neuroscientific research, the Arrowsmith Program demonstrates that it is possible to help students strengthen weak cognitive capacities underlying their learning disability.

Students entering the Arrowsmith Program have ordinarily been experiencing a range of problems including:

  • reading
  • writing
  • mathematics
  • comprehension
  • logical reasoning
  • visual memory
  • auditory memory
  • dyslexia
  • non-verbal learning
  • auditory processing
  • attention

The program addresses the root causes of the learning disability rather than managing its symptoms.

Silkwood has been delivering the Arrowsmith Program for many years and has seen some genuinely amazing progress in participating students. Our team of three senior experienced and fully qualified Arrowsmith teachers are dedicated staff who are passionate about delivering academic outcomes for children with learning difficulties.
