Because of our integrated approach, music plays an integral part in the delivery of our unique education program – adding colour and life throughout the learning program.
In the primary school years all students at Silkwood engage in the wonderful sounds of song and music and learn a musical instrument.
In addition, music is studied as a specialist subject in its own right. Our specialist music teachers deliver a weekly music theory lesson in the Primary school years. This is followed by experiential music classes in the afternoon program where all students learn to play an instrument in Year 3 and then move into a program of choice with choirs, orchestras and small ensembles in the later years.
Guest musicians, performances and excursions are frequently incorporated into the program to bring concepts and experiences to life.
Music can continue to be studied in the High School Program through elective options in Years 7 and 8 and then included in a student’s individual Big Picture.
