Silkwood focuses, where possible, on employing student-led assessment processes that give meaningful context to evaluating learning outcomes.
Our approach is largely formative, where we apply authentic learning experiences to identify and improve outcomes.
Tests are only used to measure a student’s successful integration of knowledge when it is deemed as the most appropriate way to support a student’s progress. Formative student-friendly options are always the first consideration. The exception to this is NAPLAN testing. As an accredited school, Silkwood is required to participate in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 NAPLAN testing (an Australia-wide standardised test). In this case, parents are able to choose if their child participates or not, and the School supports parents in their decision.
To reflect Silkwood’s student-focused learning ethos, all students develop a learning portfolio to showcase their progress and their work. Each student leads a conference between their parents, teacher and other guests of their choice to exhibit this portfolio.
Silkwood complies with the standards set out for all accredited schools and issues parents with a formal school report every semester. This is produced in accordance with State education legislation.
Silkwood is a credible education choice for parents who seek an innovative learning environment that challenges traditional schooling to enhance student learning.
