Silkwood School: Creating Space for Young Men to Grow

Tuesday, 12 May 2026

For many young men, the teenage years can raise big questions about identity, relationships and what it really means to show up in the world. At Silkwood School, we believe those questions deserve to be taken seriously, and wellbeing isn’t something that happens by accident, it’s something we actively nurture and create space for.

One of the ways we do this is through Top Blokes Foundation, a leading young men’s mental health program that supports boys and young men to build confidence, strengthen resilience, and navigate life with greater self-awareness, connection, and a sense of possibility. It’s the kind of program that aligns deeply with The Silkwood Way, because here, who a young person is becoming matters just as much as what they are learning. That intentional, whole-person thinking is at the heart of everything we do.

Designed to meet young men where they are, no two sessions look the same, but the intention behind them always is - helping young men build the kind of self-awareness and relational skills that make a genuine difference in their everyday lives. Within a safe and supportive space, students are invited to think deeply about who they are and how they show up for the people around them, through honest conversation, real-life scenarios and hands-on activities.

In one session, a simple game of Jenga becomes something far more meaningful. Each block represents a relationship value: trust, affection, laughter, communication. As the tower shifts, so does the conversation. Students explore why these qualities matter across all kinds of relationships, not just romantic ones, but friendships, family and the bonds that show up in every corner of their lives. They talk about conflict and boundaries and walk away with practical strategies to navigate the moments that can so easily impact their mental and emotional health if left unaddressed.

The takeaways are simple yet powerful. “Communication is the key to everything. Trust in yourself”. For these young men, being a good bloke isn’t about fitting a mould, it’s about knowing your values and living by them.

The growth that happens inside a Top Blokes session ripples outward, into friendships, families and the everyday moments that shape who these young men are becoming.

This is The Silkwood Way in action. Learning experiences that go beyond content and curriculum to nurture the whole person. Their identity, their empathy, their ability to connect meaningfully with others. When young people are given the space to ask hard questions and sit honestly with the answers, something profound happens. They begin to understand not just who they are, but who they want to become.
