As we come to the close of Term 4 and farewell 2025, we look back on a year filled with moments that brought joy, connection, and a real sense of community across our school. It has been a time to celebrate our students’ progress, honour their unique journeys, and enjoy the many experiences that make Silkwood such a special place to learn and grow.
Celebrating Term 4 Highlights
This term was filled with celebrations and gatherings that brought our community together. One of the standout moments was the Summer Music Concert, where students shared their creativity and love for music on stage. Guided by our inspiring music team, their performances were filled with heart, confidence, and collaboration — a beautiful reflection of The Silkwood Way.
We also welcomed families to our Grandparents’ Breakfast, always one of the most cherished events of the year. Seeing students share stories, smiles, and a warm morning together with their grandparents and special adults was truly uplifting.
To close the year, our Summer Water Festival brought colour, laughter, and plenty of splashes to the campus. It was the perfect celebration of the season and a joyful way to finish Term 4 together.
True to The Silkwood Way, the end-of-year transitions and graduation were marked with cherished traditions.
The Primary and Junior School Plays, were moments of magic, showcasing our students’ creativity, storytelling, and growing confidence.
Across the school, the End of Term Exhibitions provided a platform for students to reflect on their learning journeys and share their achievements with their families.
These exhibitions celebrated the individuality and hard work of every student, bringing the Silkwood learning experience to life.
Every day at Silkwood is dynamic and meaningful, with students exploring, creating, and connecting in ways that reflect their interests and aspirations.

Today, we celebrated the wonderful grandparents of our Silkwood community — those who fill our lives with warmth, wisdom, and the kind of love that never fades.
Grandparents hold a special place in our hearts. Their stories, care, and gentle guidance help shape our young people into who they are becoming — curious, kind, and confident to be their true selves.
It was beautiful to see so many generations coming together on campus this morning, sharing laughter, memories, and big smiles. How lucky we are to have such meaningful connections in our community!
A huge thank you to our Community Relations Team and the SCCP for hosting another gorgeous Grandparents’ Day Breakfast — a truly special tradition we all look forward to each year.
Primary School wrapped up Term 4 — and the school year — in the most joyful way possible with our much-loved Summer Water Festival!
The campus was filled with laughter, splashes, teamwork, and those big smiles we love seeing at this time of year. From water play to creative activities, our students spent the morning connecting, celebrating their journey, and simply enjoying being together.
Our Middle School students in Years 8 & 9 kicked off the day with an exciting morning at the Gold Coast Wake Park, before returning to the Middle School oval for a joyful afternoon of water activities and shared fun back on campus, while our Year 6 & 7 students spent the day by the water at the GC Aqua Park.
Meanwhile, our Year 10 and 11 students headed to Wet’n’Wild, making the most of the day with rides, laughter, and plenty of end-of-year celebrations together.
It was the perfect way to close the year — light, fun, and full of the Silkwood spirit. A big thank you to everyone who helped bring this day to life. What a beautiful way to finish Term 4 and head into the holidays!
Exhibitions at Silkwood — celebrating learning in action!
At Silkwood, exhibitions are a special time when our students share the learning journeys they’ve been on — showcasing projects that reflect their passions, interests, and growth throughout the year. These moments are not about grades or tests, but about confidence, communication, reflection, and the joy of sharing real learning with others.
By the end of Term 4, all students across the school take part in end-of-year exhibitions, each one thoughtfully designed to suit their stage of development. While the format may look different from year to year, the heart of exhibitions remains the same — students making their learning visible and meaningful.
In the Early and Junior years, exhibitions are rich in hands-on experiences, creativity, play, and exploration. Families might see artwork, models, storytelling, movement, and collaborative projects that capture curiosity and imagination. As students move through Primary and into Middle School, exhibitions grow in depth and complexity, reflecting longer inquiries, real-world challenges, personal interests, and emerging skills in research, problem-solving, and communication.
By the time students reach Senior School, exhibitions become deeply personal and highly intentional. Learning is shaped around future goals, industry pathways, community connections, and big questions about identity, purpose, and impact.
By Year 12, this journey culminates in something truly extraordinary. Students present their Graduation Project and Portfolio — a powerful reflection of their entire Silkwood experience. These exhibitions showcase who they’ve become, what matters to them, and where they’re heading next. It’s a celebration not just of achievement, but of clarity, courage, and direction.
Over Term 4, our Senior Campus was alive with inspiring stories, creative ideas, and deeply personal projects. From innovative business plans to artistic showcases, from university pathways to hands-on industry placements — every exhibition was unique and deeply meaningful.
Congratulations to our incredible students — the future is bright, and it’s uniquely yours.
Transitions and Graduation: Celebrating Milestones in the Silkwood Journey
Year 1 Transition Ceremony
Our community gathered to honour a beautiful milestone — our Year 1 students stepping from Junior School into Primary School!
It was a morning filled with pride, joy, and a whole lot of smiles as we watched these young learners mark the next step in their Silkwood journey. They’ve grown in confidence, curiosity, and independence, and seeing them ready for this next chapter was truly something special.
A heartfelt thank you to Miss Lauren, our wonderful Head of Junior School, along with the dedicated Junior School Advisors who have guided these children with so much care throughout their early years. Your support has shaped an incredible foundation for them.

Year 9 Transition Ceremony — a moment that matters
What a special moment it was to come together as a community to celebrate our Year 9 students as they marked an important transition in their learning journey.
This ceremony wasn’t just about moving into the next stage — it was a chance to pause, reflect, and acknowledge how much each student has grown. Through challenges, discoveries, collaboration, and self-reflection, our Year 9s have continued to shape who they are and how they learn.
As they step forward, they do so with greater independence, clarity, and confidence in their interests and strengths. This transition marks the beginning of deeper responsibility, stronger voice, and more intentional choices — all key parts of learning the Silkwood way.
We are incredibly proud of our Year 9 students and grateful to the families who continue to walk alongside them on this journey.
Here’s to the next chapter — filled with purpose, curiosity, and possibility.
*Please note that we have not yet received the Year 9 graduation photos. As soon as they come through, we will add them to the newsletter and share them in the Year 9 Facebook group.

The end-of-year plays in our Junior and Primary Schools were filled with joy, creativity, and memorable moments this term. With three Prep plays and a Year 4 production, our stages truly came alive.
Our Prep students delighted families with their performances of Jack and the Beanstalk, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and The Gingerbread Man. Each play was rich in imagination, storytelling, and hands-on creativity — a beautiful reflection of the confidence and enthusiasm our youngest learners have developed throughout the year.
In Primary School, our Year 4 students presented Thor’s Hammer!, bringing the world of Norse mythology to life. This performance was the culmination of a year-long exploration of Nordic myths, showing depth of understanding, collaboration, and powerful storytelling.
Across all performances, the dedication of students and Advisors was evident — from imaginative costumes to expressive acting and teamwork. Families loved seeing the growth, courage, and creativity of their children on stage, making these plays a much-loved and meaningful part of our Silkwood end-of-year celebrations.
Please find the full play videos in your year level Facebook group.
Thank You to Our Amazing SCCP Class Carers
On the end of Term 4 we gathered for a beautiful Class Carers Morning Tea — a moment to celebrate and thank the incredible parents who quietly make such a big difference in our school life. Our Class Carers are the helping hands and friendly faces who keep our families connected, support Advisors with day-to-day communication, and bring our community together in so many thoughtful ways.
From organising class catch-ups to sharing updates, welcoming new families, and being that go-to person when someone needs a hand — they truly help our students feel supported every single day.
Their generosity, kindness, and willingness to step in whenever needed make our community stronger, more connected, and a whole lot brighter.
To all our Class Carers — thank you. We are so grateful for everything you do, and we loved celebrating you this morning in true Silkwood spirit.

Learning News
Learning News and Highlights Term 4
Year 5 - Exploring the Colours of Nature
As part of their Exploring learning frame, our Year 5 learners have done their new unit on Botanics and Ecosystems — and what better way to start than by creating something from nature itself!
They started the unit by experimenting to extract natural pigments from plants, flowers, and soil collected around our school grounds to create their own silk fabric dyeing. Through this process, they’re discovering how plants offer us much more than food and oxygen — they can become sources of colour, medicine, compost, and inspiration.
This creative beginning set the scene for the rest of Term 4, when they deeper scientific discovery — exploring how ecosystems work, how plants grow and reproduce, the process of photosynthesis, plant classification, flowering cycles, and even how fruits form.
In true Silkwood Way style, this learning adventure blends creativity and science to spark curiosity, connection, and wonder for the living world around us.
Our Year 1 learners had a fiery morning of fun last term, when local firefighters visited the school! They learned all about how firefighters help our community, explored the truck, and even had a go spraying the fire hose!
It was such an exciting, hands-on experience — full of laughter, curiosity, and wide-eyed wonder. A huge thank you to our local heroes for taking the time to inspire our young learners and show what teamwork and courage look like in action.
Our Year 2 students dive into their Inquiry unit last term — Time and Space — exploring big questions about the moon, constellations, stars and galaxies, space travel, the future, rovers, and even the concept of aliens!
To bring their learning to life, we welcomed Starlab Education to Silkwood in Term 4. Their incredible Cosmodome Planetarium transformed our Primary School Hall into an interactive space adventure.
Inside the inflatable dome, students experienced a guided journey through the day and night skies. Using laser pointers, the presenter led them in discovering planets, the moon, stars, and constellations — sparking curiosity and wonder about the universe around us.
This hands-on experience perfectly reflects The Silkwood Way, inspiring curiosity, imagination, and real-world learning connections.
Year 2 - Discovering Drama Through Imagination and Connection
Last term, our Year 2 students have been diving into the world of performance with Blah Blah Blah Improv Drama as part of the Silkwood Discovery Learning Frame.
Each week, the classroom comes alive with laughter, creativity, and quick thinking as students learn to act, explore comedy, and express their emotions through voice, movement, and improvisation.
They’re learning to communicate with confidence, think on their feet, read body language, and work together to build imaginative stories on the spot.
Beyond the fun, these sessions are helping students strengthen teamwork, empathy, and problem-solving skills while learning to support one another in every scene. Most importantly, they’re discovering the joy of letting go of doubt, trusting their instincts, and embracing creativity in a supportive space that feels safe, inclusive, and full of laughter.
It’s The Silkwood Way in action — hands-on, connected learning that inspires confidence and curiosity.
This term, our Year 4 learners have been diving into the world of gymnastics — exploring movement, strength, and balance through a series of fun and challenging activities. From tumbling and jumping to perfecting balance and coordination, every session has encouraged students to stretch their skills and step outside their comfort zones.
Along the way, they’ve been building confidence, perseverance, and body awareness, learning how to move with focus and control while cheering each other on. The joy and teamwork shining through each class have been just as inspiring as the skills themselves!
This experience forms part of our Exploring Learning Frame, where students learn through active, hands-on experiences that spark curiosity and help them understand more about themselves and the world around them.
We’re so proud of our adventurous and determined Year 4 crew!
Wow! What a sensational first camp our little campers experienced! As part of their first Real World Adventure, our Year 2 students embarked on an unforgettable journey that blended science, exploration, teamwork, and a touch of magic!
The adventure began with a visit to the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium and the Botanical Gardens at Mt Coot-tha, where curiosity about the universe was sparked right from the start. Back at Silkwood, the excitement continued with Gecko Sports team-building games, Street Science’s rocket-making fun, and an incredible “Under the Stars” evening with the Gold Coast Astronomy Association, including telescope viewing and night-sky exploration.
Students camped overnight in tents set up on the Primary School oval — a cosy and fun glamping-style experience filled with laughter, discovery, and friendship.
This milestone camp, part of our Discovery Learning Frame, helps students build independence, resilience, and confidence through hands-on learning and shared experiences — creating cherished memories of their very first school adventure.
What a wonderful ‘moment that matters’ for our brave and curious Year 2s!
Year 8 - Adventuring with Life — Growing in Respect
As part of the Discovery Learning Frame, our Year 8 learners took part in a powerful Respect Workshop facilitated by the REACH Foundation in Term 4.
Through thoughtful discussions and interactive activities, students explored what it truly means to live our Silkwood value of Respect — for themselves, for others, and for their community.
The session encouraged empathy, self-awareness, and positive connections, supporting our young people as they continue growing into confident, compassionate leaders ready to guide our Middle School community in 2026.
Workshops like this create meaningful opportunities for our learners to reflect, share, and strengthen their understanding of what it means to adventure through life with kindness and respect.
Year 4 - Real World Adventure – Moreton Island Experience
Last term, our Year 4 adventurers set off on an unforgettable Real World Adventure to Moreton Island (Mulgumpin) — a culturally and environmentally significant destination.
Over three days and two nights, students explored the island’s stunning landscapes through activities that deepened their understanding of culture, environment, and connection. From ferry and 4WD adventures to kayaking, night beach walks and stargazing, the experience brought learning to life in meaningful ways.
Through the Discovery Learning Frame, students engaged in the Island Discovery Tour, transparent kayaking, all while learning about sustainability, ecosystems, and the importance of caring for Country. They also reflected on the Quandamooka People’s connection to Mulgumpin, exploring the relationship between people, place, and culture.
Beyond adventure, this experience nurtured teamwork, empathy, and personal growth — helping students recognise their strengths and develop confidence through shared challenges and discovery.
What a remarkable journey of learning, connection, and fun for our Year 4 crew!
Our Year 6 students embraced the entrepreneurial spirit this term as they took on the $20 Boss Challenge Markets for 2025!
This immersive learning experience gives students the opportunity to step into the world of business — creating, marketing, and running their own ventures from the ground up. Each student received $20 in seed funding to turn their ideas into reality, learning valuable skills in creativity, teamwork, problem-solving, and financial literacy along the way.
The energy and innovation on display were incredible! From handmade creations to tasty treats and clever eco-friendly products, every stall reflected thoughtful design and genuine passion. It was inspiring to see our young entrepreneurs bringing The Silkwood Way to life — showing courage, creativity, and care for people and planet.
What a truly special afternoon celebrating our incredible senior students, their achievements, creativity, and the journeys that have shaped them.

Senior Students - Mechatronics Workshop Adventure!
As part of Silkwood’s Exploring learning frame, students are exposed to experiences that connect with their skills, interests, and personal learning journeys.
Past term, some of our Senior students had the opportunity to head to Brisbane for a full day of hands-on engineering at QUT Gardens Point — and they absolutely loved it!
They worked together to build robotic arms in a mechatronics workshop, putting problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork into motion. They also enjoyed a mini campus tour and explored The Cube, one of the world’s largest digital interactive learning and display spaces… a real highlight!
It’s a great example of The Silkwood Way learning adventure, where curiosity, real experiences, and practical skill-building come together in a way that connects with each learner.
As part of the Exploring learning frame, our Year 10 Experiential Cooking Group met twice a week in Term 4 , giving students a chance to discover new interests and build confidence in the kitchen.
This hands-on program has been a real hit, with students learning practical skills such as safe kitchen practices, hygiene and food safety, healthy eating, grocery shopping and budgeting, and preparing quick, nourishing meals.
Each week, the group of twelve students works in pairs or small teams to take on a themed food challenge. They explore the origins of the chosen dish, identify key ingredients, and research or adapt recipes to suit their tastes, our kitchen facilities, and the time they have.
They create a shopping list, cook their dish in the next session, and—best of all—share and enjoy the results of their work together.
A wonderful example of learning through experience, curiosity, and real-world skills.
This Term, our incredible Year 8 student Evie hosted a BBQ Fundraiser as part of her PILT Project, raising funds and awareness for @XLH Australia Inc - Public Page!
Thanks to her dedication — and everyone’s generous support — an amazing $331.65 was raised!
XLH Australia, founded in 2018, is a patient support and advocacy group for people living with X-Linked Hypophosphatemia (XLH). Their mission is to promote awareness and education for families, carers, medical professionals, and the wider Australian community.
What an inspiring effort, Evie — leading with purpose and showing how one person can make a real difference!
Traineeships, Outlearning and Industry Connections at Senior School
One of the strengths of The Silkwood Way is seeing students step into real-world experiences that align with their interests, strengths, and future pathways. Throughout the term, Senior School students engaged in a wide range of traineeships, internships, shadow days, and industry experiences that brought learning to life beyond the classroom.
Traineeships in Action
Throughout the term, several students began new traineeships, including:
- Grace B. at Saiko, a Japanese restaurant, where she stepped into a waitress role and gained valuable hospitality experience.
- Liberty L. at Subway, where she developed customer service skills and learned the day-to-day operations of a fast-paced food environment.
We also acknowledged students who completed their traineeships this year:
- Shani M. at Boost, gaining experience in food preparation and customer service.
- Cooper C. at Three Kings, learning both kitchen and front-of-house operations.
- Laura C. at Village Roadshow (Topgolf) — with a special congratulations to Laura on her graduation.
Completing a traineeship while still at school is a significant commitment. Students typically work at least one day per week, completing approximately 375 hours over 12 months, alongside the theory components of their Certificate III.
Industry Placements and Shadow Days
Over the course of the term, several students participated in internships and shadow day experiences, gaining firsthand insight into a range of industries:
- Gabe Davis progressed from a shadow day at Radio Metro into an internship, where he went on to host his own radio slot, learning about broadcasting and live radio production.
- Van Webb completed a year-long internship with Bundall Auto, Marine and Electrical and is now on track to begin an apprenticeship.
- Phoenix Jeffrey and Charles Stampton-Chinn took part in a shadow day at Redline Service, exploring the automotive repair industry.
- Jade Raciti spent a day at Gold Coast Airport, learning about ground crew roles and airport operations.
Health, Environment and Community Experiences
Students considering health-related pathways took part in a Nurse for a Day experience at Mater Hospital, gaining practical insight into healthcare roles and hospital environments.
Students with a strong interest in animal care also completed a Ranger in Training internship at David Fleay’s Wildlife Park. Participants included Manolo, Meg, Lauren, Isaiah, and Sophie, who gained hands-on experience in conservation and animal care.
Connections with Industry
To further support pathway exploration, Senior School welcomed a representative from Construction Skills Queensland, who ran a workshop for students interested in the construction industry. Students learned about major upcoming local projects, including the Andrews Project and the new Coomera Hospital, and explored the wide range of career opportunities available within the sector.
Year 9 Transition Days
Year 9 students also participated in two transition days at the Senior School campus in Robina. The first day focused on familiarisation with the area, including campus tours and meeting Senior Advisors. The second day included Discovery Sessions, pathway information, insights into Senior School life, a student panel, and a tour of TAFE.
We look forward to welcoming these students as they begin their Year 10 journey in 2026.
These experiences reflect the dedication, consistency, and initiative shown by our students as they stepped into meaningful, real-world opportunities throughout the year. A huge congratulations to all involved — a wonderful reflection of learning in action at Silkwood.
Silkwood Students Shine at the Gold Coast Individual Age Championships!
Silkwood School was invited to take part in the Gold Coast Individual Age Championships 2025 — the biggest chess event on the Coast. This gathering brought young players from across the region together for a full day of strategy, focus, and plenty of fun.
We had students representing all three campuses, and they did an incredible job. Most of our players scored at least 2 out of 7 points, with many finishing on 3–4 points. A special shout-out to Atlas, who received a merit award with an impressive 4.5 points!
Our students showed teamwork, patience, and great sportsmanship throughout the day. They represented Silkwood beautifully, and we’re so proud to see them stepping into opportunities like this with curiosity and courage.
Well done, everyone — what an exciting milestone for our growing chess community
Last term, a group of our Year 3 students has been exploring cooking as part of their learning journey. As part of The Silkwood Way, students engage in activities within the Exploring learning frame that align with their interests — and cooking was a popular choice.
Cooking is such a meaningful way for young people to connect hands-on experiences with their learning. Following a recipe brings together reading, writing, measurement, problem-solving, teamwork, and plenty of curiosity. Along the way, students chat, take turns, experiment with flavours, and discover how their skills transfer into everyday life.
Last term, the Year 3 group wrapped up this adventure in the most special way — by preparing a three-course meal for their families. It was a gorgeous celebration of their growth, confidence, and creativity, and the feedback said it all… the dishes were absolutely delicious, and everyone was blown away by what the students achieved.
Congratulations to our young chefs — what an incredible effort!
This term, as part of Year 3 PILT (Personal Learning Interest Time), students took part in an exciting and important excursion to the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre to learn practical skills for staying safe in and around water. During the visit, they practised simple rescue techniques using pool noodles, buckets, and balls, explored how to float, and learned how to use a clear distress signal if they ever need help. To complete the unit, Scott from First Aid Accident and Emergency delivered an engaging first aid workshop back at school. Students learned the recovery position (remembered as the fun “dab” position), how to apply bandages for cuts and snake bites, and even had a go at CPR — keeping the rhythm with “Stayin’ Alive.” The session reinforced the importance of staying calm in emergencies, calling 000, and seeking adult support. Such a meaningful and memorable experience for our Year 3 crew.
Our Year 9 crew recently took their Adventure Passport beyond the classroom with a hands-on day at Dreamworld — a chance to explore real-world pathways through experiences linked to their interests, from Business & Leadership to Wellness, Hospitality, and Sport.
The park team welcomed our students behind the scenes for an interactive workshop that brought learning to life. They explored how a major tourism destination operates, discovered the thinking behind marketing and media strategies, and stepped into the world of workplace safety across Dreamworld, WhiteWater World, and SkyPoint. From understanding target markets and partnerships to examining safety plans and creating a hazard action guide, students gained a genuine insight into how different parts of the industry work together.
To wrap up the day, the group enjoyed some well-earned fun on the rides — the perfect way to finish an adventure filled with curiosity, teamwork, and plenty of big smiles.
Primary School Shine the Light Assembly and Middle School Town Hall
Both gatherings are a special part of The Silkwood Way — moments where we pause to celebrate achievements, recognise the bright sparks in each advisory, and share meaningful updates that keep us all connected. It’s a time for students to feel seen, encouraged, and inspired by one another.
From the joyful energy in Primary to the thoughtful reflections in Middle School, both celebrations were filled with pride, connection, and plenty of big smiles.
A beautiful reminder of how powerful it is when our young people come together to honour effort, kindness, and growth.
At the end of Term 4, our Year 8 students concluded their Engineering Principles journey with the much-loved Billy Cart Derby, one of the highlights of the year.
Working in teams, students planned, built, and tested their own billy carts, putting their ideas, problem-solving skills, and collaboration into action. With technical guidance throughout the process, they transformed their concepts into safe, functional, and creative carts ready for the track.
The morning was filled with energy, encouragement, and a strong sense of community, making it a memorable way to celebrate learning in action.
Congratulations to our Year 8 students for their effort, teamwork, and enthusiasm throughout the project.
Senior Students - Making a Difference, One Plate at a Time
Last term our Year 10 and 11 students rolled up their sleeves to help at Zambrero’s Plate 4 Plate Day, and what an incredible experience it was. In just two hours, they joined hundreds of volunteers to pack more than 70,000 meals that will be sent to school feeding programs in the Philippines.
This initiative forms part of our Exploring Learning Frame, where students engage in real-world, hands-on experiences that connect learning to purpose.
Through community projects like this, they develop curiosity, compassion, teamwork, and problem-solving skills — key parts of The Silkwood Way.
The energy at the event was contagious, with everyone smiling, working together, and celebrating the power of community.
Zambrero even reached out afterwards to say how impressed they were with our students’ enthusiasm and teamwork.
We’re so proud of this crew and the heart they bring to every learning adventure.
Year 7 to 9 - Young Entrepreneur Summit 2025
Students from Years 7 to 9 represented Silkwood at the Gold Coast Young Entrepreneur Summit this week — an inspiring day filled with creativity, courage, and big ideas!
After an opening address from the Acting Mayor, students heard from a range of passionate entrepreneurs who shared their journeys, challenges, and tips for success. The day concluded with our students pitching their own business ideas to a panel of judges — and they absolutely impressed them! Judges commented on how confidently our young innovators handled some of the toughest questions of the day.
We’re so proud to see the next generation of changemakers stepping up with curiosity, confidence, and vision.
Year 9 - Real-World Learning in Action
Last Term , a group of our Year 9 students spent the day at Gold Coast Trades College, gaining insight and hands-on experience from qualified experts in the construction and automotive trades.
They had the chance to use real tools, work on practical projects, and experience firsthand what life in the trades is really like — while also seeing how their school-based learning connects to real-world skills and careers.
This experience was part of our Exploring Learning Frame, where students step beyond the classroom to discover how the world works and what sparks their curiosity. It’s all about encouraging them to explore possibilities, understand different industries, and see how their learning connects to the world around them.
Experiences like this help our students discover their interests, recognise their strengths, and explore the pathways they might want to follow as they move into Senior School.
Entrepreneurial Minds Shining Bright at Silkwood Middle School
Last term, our Middle School campus was buzzing with ideas, energy, and real-world thinking as students came together for the Future Anything Showcase.
Throughout the term, our Year 8 and 9 students took part in the Future Anything Activate program — a hands-on experience that invites young people to step into the role of an entrepreneur and bring their ideas to life.
Year 8 explored the Side Hustle theme, creating small business ideas driven by creativity, initiative, and problem-solving.
Year 9 focused on Social Enterprise, spending the term researching causes that mattered to them and designing practical solutions. These ideas were brought to life through branding campaigns, including some impressive t-shirt designs, ready to be shared and pitched.
Alongside them, our Year 7 students joined the afternoon with their $20 Boss Market, setting up stalls, selling their products, and gaining valuable experience in planning, budgeting, and communicating their ideas. It was wonderful to see Years 7, 8, and 9 all together, learning from one another and sharing the space with confidence and purpose.
The showcase itself was a true celebration — filled with thoughtful pitches, creative prototypes, and meaningful conversations. It reflected The Silkwood Way in action: thinking differently, showing courage, and adventuring with life.
A big thank you to our families, mentors, and wider Silkwood community for your ongoing encouragement and support. These moments remind us what learning at Silkwood is all about — supporting students to follow their interests, back their ideas, and make a real impact.
We are so proud of our Middle School changemakers. The future is in thoughtful, capable hands.
Future Anything National Finalists
Throughout the year, our Year 8 and 9 students explored creativity, innovation, and real-world problem-solving through the Future Anything program — a national entrepreneurship challenge that supports young people to turn ideas into meaningful action.
As part of this experience, Year 8 students developed innovative side hustles, while Year 9 students created social enterprises addressing real-world challenges that mattered to them. This work sits within The Silkwood Way’s Real-World Learning Program, where students connect their passions with purposeful learning that builds confidence, creativity, and entrepreneurial thinking.
We are proud to share that three Silkwood teams were named National Finalists, placing in the top 10% of entries across Australia.
Congratulations to our National Finalists:
Mya P. (Year 9) – Pin Pals - Selected for the Showcase Category at the National Finals
Ohana C. (Year 9) – Dadventure Camps - National Semi-Finalist
Amala B., Lola W. and Paris D. (Year 9) – Flip Score - National Semi-Finalists
A special congratulations goes to Mya, who achieved an outstanding result by earning her place in the Future Anything National Finals from a field of over 9,000 students nationwide. Her project, Pin Pals, was designed to support connection and wellbeing, reflecting empathy, purpose, and thoughtful design.
Mya also demonstrated great courage by presenting her idea on the national stage, sharing her work with a large audience and representing Silkwood with confidence and clarity.
The Future Anything team shared the following feedback:
“Absolutely blown away by the quality of the applications that came through from Silkwood — heartfelt, innovative, and interesting. Such an amazing outcome in your first year.”
We are incredibly proud of all our Year 8 and 9 students involved in the Future Anything program. Their creativity, initiative, and willingness to step into real-world opportunities are a powerful reflection of learning in action and The Silkwood Way.
Celebrating a Big Year in the Library & Makerspace
A big thank you to all our students for engaging so enthusiastically with the Library and Makerspace this year. We have been blown away by the volume of reading, creativity, and curiosity shown across all year levels.
Thanks to this ongoing engagement, we were able to curate a wonderful line-up of Author and Illustrator visits — welcoming local and interstate creatives, from emerging voices to well-established authors. Each visitor shared values that strongly align with The Silkwood Way, and the response from students was our biggest yet.
Working quietly behind the scenes throughout the year has been Adara, our school-based trainee, who is close to completing her Certificate IV in Library and Information Services. Adara has made a meaningful contribution to the Library, from day-to-day organisation to supporting students and advisors with care and consistency.
As part of her traineeship journey, Adara also had the opportunity to explore beyond campus, including time in the Local History archives at Southport Library, where she worked with artefacts and made connections through restoration projects — a pretty special experience.
Adara has shared a few short reflections below, offering a glimpse into her days in the Library. Thank you, Adara — the students truly love your support and book recommendations.
A Glimpse into a Day in the Library
Adara, Library Trainee
“I’ve been a student at Silkwood my whole life, and I never imagined my first job would be in the school library — but it feels like the perfect fit.”
“Throughout the day, I help students and advisors find books, loan and return items, and recommend stories — there are lots of visits from Prep to Year 9.”
“One of my favourite parts of the role is helping with Author and Illustrator visits and seeing students come back the next day excited to read.”
“This year, I connected my PILT to my traineeship by upcycling weeded books and learning about book conservation.”
